  5. If you work with a Macintosh computer on your desktop and a PowerBook on the
  6. road, you can rest assured that you’re working on the most up-to-date version
  7. of your work at any time with the PowerBook File Assistant. The PowerBook File
  8. Assistant software lets you designate the files that will be “synchronized”
  9. between your Macintosh desktop computer and PowerBook. The PowerBook File
  10. Assistant also includes battery management features that can increase the
  11. battery life of your PowerBook and convenience features that make mobile
  12. computing easier and faster.

  14. With file synchronization, PowerBook users have the freedom to work whenever
  15. and wherever they want. Instead of having to waste time keeping documents
  16. current on two Macintosh computers, the PowerBook File Assistant keeps any two
  17. files, folders, or disks the same—either locally, over a network, or using a
  18. diskette.

  20. Getting started is easy. Simply set up a link between two folders or files, one
  21. stored on a Macintosh and one stored on a PowerBook desktop system that is
  22. networked and ready for file sharing via System 7. To set up a link, simply
  23. drag the appropriate file or folder icon onto the Synchronizer window—just as
  24. you do when moving a document in the Finder. You can establish links that work
  25. both ways or in just one direction as well.

  27. Once the links are established, any changes you make in one document are made
  28. in the linked document. And unlike most other synchronization packages today,
  29. the PowerBook File Assistant keeps a database of everything you do to make sure
  30. you don’t lose work.

  32. Battery management features with the File Assistant include automatic backlight
  33. dimming and a permanent RAM disk feature that saves information between
  34. restarts and shutdowns. A sleep key allows you to put your PowerBook to sleep
  35. when not in use to preserve battery life.

  37. Also included are several extensions that make mobile computing even easier.
  38. For instance, you can print documents even when a printer is not currently
  39. connected. When the PowerBook is reconnected to a network that has a printer,
  40. the queued documents are automatically printed. And the use of a new technology
  41. prevents your cursor from ever disappearing as it some-times does with
  42. passive-matrix displays.
